While it may seem like video editing requires fancy software or training, apps like TikTok offer a wide variety of different video editing tools that can really improve your video–if used correctly. Follow the tips below to make sure your videos are at the highest quality possible.
Recording in App
To film a video on TikTok, click the “+” sign located at the bottom of the screen. From there, you can select whether you want to post a photo or select the duration of the video. To record a video, hold down the red button and release to stop recording. You can also set a timer by clicking the timer option on the right side of the screen that allows you to record hands-free that will stop itself after a selected duration of time.
Uploading Clips
If you have previously recorded content you wish to post, click the bottom right “upload” button and select your desired clip from your camera roll. You can now edit this clip exactly how you would if you recorded it in the app.
Effects, Filters, & Sounds
TikTok offers a huge amount of video effects ranging from the green screen effect you can use to film reactions to quirky face editing affects you can use before filming. You can also apply filters to your videos by clicking the three-circle button on the right side of the page. Sounds can also be added to enhance your video’s chances of appealing to the algorithm. Different sounds trend all the time and utilizing a popular one can help you get on the For You Page.
Trimming Clips
After filming your content, click the red check mark on the bottom right to move on to the next set of options. On the right side, there is an option to trim your individual clips to cut out any pauses or parts you don’t want included so that you don’t have to completely reshoot the clip. The slider allows you to select where you’d like each clip to be cut off at. From this page, you can also add transitions to smooth over jumps in clips, swap out a clip you’d like to retake, and add effects, sounds, or text to your video.
By following these steps, you'll be well on your way to creating captivating TikTok videos that stand out. Enjoy the process, and don't be afraid to experiment with different styles and techniques!
